In recent years, the advances in the technology in your car have been huge and Bosch is at forefront of this. We invented the Spark plug over 100 years ago, without which the petrol engine would not work, and we have been involved in the advance of Diesel technology for over 75 years. One example of a Bosch invention is the lambda sensor that we invented 30 years ago. It is now used in both petrol and diesel engines, helping to make the car run more efficiently and reduces harmful emissions, helping to protect the environment. Another Bosch invention is ESP (Electronic Stability Program). Since its invention in 1995, over 20 million have been produced. It is now in 40% of new European cars, helping to prevent skidding.

All vehicles that are three or more years old require an MOT to be carried out annually that looks at the safety of your car and at its emissions. The test covers many different areas: from lights, to emissions, to seatbelts, to brakes - many of the things that would compromise your safety or the environment.
MOTs can only be carried out by technicians in garages that are authorised by the Ministry of Transport.
To be able to perform MOTs, the person must be a skilled technician with at least 4 years experience repairing the types of vehicles they wish to test and have a full driving licence for the vehicle class they wish to test. They also need to be at least 20 years old and have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with vehicle testing, the motor trade or involving acts of violence or intimidation.
